Group Tour Itineraries

Day One

Regional Visitors Center at Wytheville VirginiaBegin your journey at our Visitors Center, filled with information on the area and our historic footprints, as well as a museum dedicated to former Virginia governor, E. Lee Trinkle, a native of Wytheville. It’s also at the Visitors Center where you will meet your step-on guide that will accompany you on your tour and delight you with legends of the area.

 

Get on board and travel along a National Scenic Byway to the top of Big Walker MountainBW Country Store in Wythe County, VA where only the birds see more! At an elevation of 3,405 feet, the lookout has an observation tower and a swinging bridge. This is the oldest and highest private scenic attraction in Virginia and is the starting point of the Tolands Raid Civil War trail that ends in Wytheville. The lookout at the top of the mountain is a Virginia Birding Trail and an exciting breathtakingly beautiful view.

 

The BW Country Store features gifts, local crafts and artists works, hand-dipped ice cream cones and homemade fudge, jams and relishes. During the summer months, the weekends feature special artisan demonstrations.

 

Heritage Preservation Center at Wytheville, VA brick building with flagsOur next stop along our historic footprints journey will be Wytheville’s Heritage Preservation Center where you can begin tours of the Haller-Gibboney Rock House – home of Wytheville’s first physician – and the Thomas J. Boyd Museum, filled with local history, a Civil War exhibit, a section on “the summer without children”, and more! Our newest museum, the Edith Bolling Wilson Museum, is dedicated to a Wytheville native and First Lady.

 

You will enjoy the drive along the route of Wytheville’s Historic Homes as well as the African American Aerial View of Wolf Creek Indian VillageHeritage Driving Tour. These routes will enable you to take a closer look of the places where people lived, learned and worshipped.

 

Our next stop will be Wolf Creek Indian Village and Museum…featuring a reconstructed Indian village with guides in native attire, museum, gift shop and sheltered picnic area. The interpretive guides lead a hands-on exploration of primitive skills including handmade replicas of tools, baskets, pottery and weapons. After touring the village, your group can shop in the gift shop full of Indian relics and beautiful native jewelry.

 

After checking into one of our 25 hotels, your group will enjoy dinner, on their own, at one of our dining establishments.

Day Two

 two zebras at Fort Chiswell Animal ParkAfter breakfast at the hotel, it’s time to get back on board for a trip to Fort Chiswell Animal Park. Your group will meet and feed animals from six of our seven continents. There’s the petting area (self-guided) and the “Outback” (guided), where you will be transported over beautiful rolling hills. Since the animals look forward to you feeding them…they’re anxiously awaiting your arrival. There’s also a gift shop full of animal-related items as well as other gifts and souvenirs.

 

West Wind Wine glass and bottleThen it’s over to West Wind Farm Vineyards and Winery…featuring hand-crafted Virginia wine with an amazing view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They have award-winning Virginia wine made from several varieties of grapes. They offer tastings and tours as well as gourmet snacks, unique candles, custom gift baskets and local arts and crafts. We can arrange for a catered lunch set in the natural beauty of the area’s rolling hills.

Their tasting room includes a full-service deli featuring Amish style meats and cheeses. The atmosphere is enhanced by the array of hand crafted local artisans works for sale.

Day Three

 

colorful herbs at Beagle Ridge Herb FarmYour group will head out to Beagle Ridge Herb Farm for a day with nature. This 160-acre wooded retreat has over four miles of nature trails as well as display gardens and seasonal events. Sit in the gardens and enjoy a cup of herbal tea, learn about an herbal craft and natural lotions and crèmes or just absorb the great outdoors.  Butterfly on Flower at Beagle RidgeYou’ll love the Flying Flowers in the butterfly house. Select in advance from a menu to satisfy your lunchtime cravings.

 

 Then, you’ll head back to downtown Wytheville for an afternoon of shopping in one of our specialty stores.

 

 Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre performance.Afterwards, your group will go back to the hotel to freshen up for the evenings’ entertainment. The Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre will welcome your group and seat you together and then serve a four-course meal to your table followed by a Broadway-caliber musical. Your group will also be welcomed from the stage. This is an evening of entertainment that won’t be forgotten! They have a gift shop full of souvenirs and theatre memorabilia; and, after the show, you’ll get to meet the cast.

 

 Next morning, it’s time to travel home and we hope you will take your new experiences with you and share your expanded outlook of our beautiful area with your family and friends.
